My dad has some HD videos of Christmas that he took on his camcorder, but they're in AVCHD format (.m2ts files). These play fine on my PC, but they have a black border around them in fullscreen. Same when I stream to my 360. When I view it in windowed mode on the PC, it doesn't have a border.
I thought maybe it was just a weird issue with the format, so I converted it, using Handbrake, to an H.264-encoded .mp4 file. The black border is gone now, but the quality difference is noticeable, however. It's definitely not as sharp as the original material. I'm sure I can play with the settings a bit to get better quality, but it's about 2.5 hours of video, and on my machine, it took almost 3 hours to convert. So I'm a bit leery of trial-and-error, and I was just wondering if anyone has any suggested settings, or even a different app to convert these videos to a more usable format.
Suggestions?
